Rock 'N' Reno Signing with Authors Mike Mantor and Gerry Foster McCarroll

Spend a rockin' evening with the authors of Rock 'N' Reno: A History of Rock Bands in Reno, Nevada from the Early 60's to the Early 80's, Mike Mantor and Gerry Foster McCarroll! Mike and Gerry will be on-hand to share stories, answer questions, and sign copies of their book.

The '60's, '70's and '80's saw an emergence of rock bands in the U.S., and around the world. Reno was no exception. Influenced by the "British Invasion", many started out as home-grown garage bands. Some lasted longer than others, some morphed into different iterations as musicians came and went, and some of the musicians had careers that reached the big time. This is the definitive story of the bands that came and went during that period of time in "The Biggest Little City in the World".

Mike Mantor, a 1964 Sparks High graduate, was in one of the earliest rock bands in Reno and went on to form, and play in, other Reno bands. He also started his own booking agency which worked with numerous Reno rock bands of the era.

Gerry Foster McCarroll, who graduated from Reno High in 1964, didn’t know Mike back in the day, but attended a few of the dances where Mike’s bands played. After they became a couple in 2012, and after hearing his stories and seeing his collection of photos, Gerry implored Mike to co-write a book about his experiences. It took almost 5 years of convincing, but they began their project in early 2018 and the book was published in August.
