Susan Palwick reads from and signs her new collection of poetry, Brief Visits: Sonnets from a Volunteer Chaplain, on Thursday, November 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Sundance Books and Music. Susan Palwick, Associate Professor of English at UNR -- where she also teaches Narrative Medicine at the Medical School -- spent over seven years volunteering as a lay chaplain in a busy ER. Brief Visits, her first book of poetry, is the story of a fictional volunteer shift told in a series of forty-five sonnets. Susan's previous books include the novels Flying in Place, The Necessary Beggar, and Shelter, and the story collection The Fate of Mice. Her work has been honored with a Silver Pen Award from the Nevada Writers Hall of fame, an Alex Award from the American Library Association, and a Crawford Award from the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts.
