Please join us for an evening with poet Carolyn Dufurrena to celebrate her new book, Quiet, Except for the Wind: Poems and Stories from the Cold Desert, with a reading, Q&A, and signing Thursday, June 22nd at 7 p.m.
Carolyn Dufurrena is a rancher, award-winning writer and filmmaker from rural northwestern Nevada. She is the author of Quiet, Except for the Wind, poems and stories from the cold desert, illustrated by the sketches of Craig Sheppard as well as Fifty Miles from Home: Riding the Long Circle on a Nevada Family Ranch. She performs regularly at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering and has contributed to several anthologies of poetry, as Outside Editor for Reflections of the West: Cowboy Painters and Poets as well as Brushstrokes and Balladeers: Painters and Poets of the American West, winner of the 2014 Wrangler Award and the Will Rogers Gold Medallion for Poetry. In 2013 she was Nevada Press Association’s Outstanding Journalist for Magazines and is a regular contributor to RANGE magazine. She is a member of the Nevada Arts Councils Artists in Schools and Communities roster, and a member of the Nevada Humanities Board of Trustees.
