And she has! Here are Linsay's previous staff picks
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen will suck you into the circus life even before you've entered the big top. Offering a nice blend of history with a fast paced plot that may surprise you in the end, this novel is a great read.
Shelters of Stone by Jean Auel is the most recent (2002) installment of the Earth's Children series. My grandmother began this series with Auel's first book Clan of the Cave Bear and waited impatiently for each new installment. I have taken the last five summers to complete the series and after finishing the last chapter of Shelters of Stone realized that this is not the end. A sixth book is in progress though no publication date has been released. This series follows main character Ayla and other primitive characters as they learn to survive on the land and interact with all of the earth's children. I found this installment to be well researched and entertaining.
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is an original story about love and connection beyond the boundaries of time. My expectations were low for a novel about time travel, however I was pleasantly surprised with quality writing, an engaging story and characters that came to life. I became so enamored with Henry, the time traveler, that I started to dream about him. This novel asks a lot of its reader, but the ride is well worth it.
